Saturday 12 April 2025* – String Ensemble Day led by Aaron McGregor at Kemnay Church Centre

The next String Ensemble Day with Dr Aaron McGregor will take place on Saturday 12 April 2025 at Kemnay Church Centre. This is a change to the date previously advertised. There are places for around 20 string players (violin, viola, cello and double bass) to play together with expert tuition from Aaron.

The music for the session is shown as follows. Parts will be available prior to the workshop.

Cost: £25 standard price or £15 for those in full-time education, and for those on disability or low-income benefits. More information is available from inveruriemusic.org or by emailing inveruriemusic@gmail.com

The proposed timetable for the day is as follows:
9.30 – arrival and set up with refreshments provided
10.00 – 11.30 – tutored session
11.30 – 11.45 – refreshment break
11.45 – 13.00 – tutored session
13.00 – 13.45 – lunch
13.45 – 14.45 – tutored session
14.45 – 15.00 – short comfort break
15.00 – 15.30 – performance session
15.30 – depart

Dr Aaron McGregor is a freelance violinist and Lecturer in Music at the University of Aberdeen. His performance background includes baroque and modern violin as well as Scottish traditional fiddle. He has performed with groups such as Concerto Caledonia, Scots Baroque, Dunedin Consort, Ex Cathedra, the Spinacino Consort, RSNO, Scottish Ensemble, Scottish Ballet, Manchester Camerata, the Evergreen Ensemble and Les Musiciens de Saint Julien. Aaron studied at the University of Edinburgh and the RCS, winning prizes for violin and chamber music, and leading the RCS symphony and opera orchestras as well as the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland. In 2020, he completed a PhD at the University of Glasgow, his research focussing on the early history of the violin in Scotland.
