The first concert of the 2025–2026 season will be given by the Resol String Quartet with saxophonist Richard Scholfield on Friday 5 September at 7.30 p.m. in the Acorn Centre, Inverurie.
Tickets for the concert cost £15 for non-subscribers and are free for under 25s in full-time education, and for those on disability or low-income benefits. They are available from TicketSource, at Novello Gifts (29 West High Street, Inverurie) or at the door.
Formed at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2018, the Resol String Quartet consists of four young artists tipped as one of Chamber Music Scotland’s ‘ones to watch’. They have toured widely together in Scotland and beyond. Classical saxophonist Richard Schofield is another alumnus of the Royal Conservatoire who has performed in solo recitals, in concertos with numerous Scottish orchestras, and in chamber groups, including previous tours with the Resol Quartet. The five players present a varied selection of works written for saxophone quintet, and of original arrangements.
Their programme, entitled ‘From Dawn Till Dusk’, is:
Aileen Sweeney: Cosmic Dawn
Elgar: Chanson de matin
Haydn: String Quartet Op. 76 No. 4 ‘Sunrise’
Paule Maurice: Tableaux de Provence
Debussy: Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune
Elgar: Chanson de nuit
Fernande Decruck: Stars under the Moon
Piazzolla: Café 1930 and Nightclub 1960
Mancini: Moon River
