John Miller began his musical life playing cornet with a local brass band in Fife, Scotland. At age 16 he joined the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, where highlights were playing the Hummel Concerto with conductor Rudolf Schwarz and The Rite of Spring with Pierre Boulez. John spent a year at Glasgow University before King’s College, Cambridge (1970-74) alongside his life-long friend and playing colleague John Wallace. During his time at King’s College he worked regularly with the London Symphony Orchestra, the London Sinfonietta, and Berio, Maxwell-Davies and Stockhausen. He joined the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble in 1972. Following postgraduate studies, John joined the Philharmonia Orchestra in London in 1977 under the musical direction of Riccardo Muti and Giuseppe Sinopoli. John was a member of Equale Brass and a founder member of The Wallace Collection in 1986. His playing career has resulted in over 75 audio recordings to date, with many new projects in the pipeline with The Wallace Collection.

Tony George is co-Artistic Director of The Wallace Collection with John Wallace. He has enjoyed a varied career in many different aspects of brass performing and teaching. In 2009, he was appointed to his current position as Professor of Ophicleide and Serpent at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, a role which he had also previously held at both the Royal College of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. As a virtuoso on tuba and its related historical instruments, Tony’s playing versatility has led him to perform with a wide spectrum of ensembles, on both modern and period instruments. This includes the Philharmonia, London Sinfonietta, London Philharmonic, Hallé Orchestra, Scottish Opera Orchestra, Desford Colliery Brass Band, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, London Mozart Players, London Gabrieli Brass Ensemble, Gabrieli Consort, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and Orchestra of the 18th Century.
