Inverurie Music is delighted to offer this new workshop opportunity suitable for intermediate and advanced players.
You will learn an extended set of traditional tunes under the guidance of experienced tutors, Ronnie Gibson & Karin Paterson.
The workshop will cover aspects of technique, transitioning between different tune-types (reels, jigs, strathspeys, etc.), and the arrangement of tunes in a group setting, and will be suitable for fiddlers and violinists who can play from music-notation.
10.15 am to 4pm (four hours tuition)
Tutors: Ronnie Gibson and Karin Paterson
Aberdeen-based community musician, Ronnie Gibson, is an advocate for accessible music-making. He works with various organisations, including the Aberdeen Strathspey & Reel Society, the Learig Orchestra, and Scottish Culture & Traditions, and has tutored at Aberdeen University, the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and the Fiddler of Strathspey Music Festival. Ron is currently leading a local oral history project and recently facilitated a community composition inspired by the new Aberdeen Bypass.
Originally from Keith, Karin’s early playing was influenced by the piping and fiddle & accordion music that was abundant in the area. Studying music though school she was a member of NYSOS for a number of years while her tutor, Hebbie Grey, gave her a strong grounding in North East playing. She has a very musical approach to her playing, and is a well respected local tutor. While living in Aberdeenshire she played for many years with local ceilidh bands including Reel’D In, Dancing Hazards and the Gordonaires, and is currently playing with Ceilidh Mor. Work took her abroad for many years and during that time she played with Dubai Chamber Orchestra and the wonderful folk-rock band Next Flight out, also playing with traditional Norwegian musicians at various venues in Norway”
NOTE: Players should be able to read sheet music
