Inverurie Music Award Scheme 2020

violin

Inverurie Music is delighted to announce that the 2020 round of awards to young musicians is now complete and seventeen young musicians have been supported financially by the scheme.

Almost £1,600 was awarded in 2020. This funding was awarded to support the young musicians to buy printed music, instruments or accessories; pay music exam fees; or to obtain additional tuition.

Amy, who attends Meldrum Academy and plays with the Aberdeenshire Music Centre orchestra, was keen to obtain funding towards a new cello bow.

Thomas (Inverurie Academy) plays in a band called Maidenstone. He received funding towards a drum machine which helps the band and his musical composition studies for Advanced Higher Music at school. Ife (also from Inverurie Academy) hopes to buy her own clarinet with help from her award.

Lydia (Alford Academy) plays flute and piccolo, is a member of the South-Central Aberdeenshire Youth Concert Band, and has played in local musical theatre productions. Her award helped buy a piccolo.

The Award Scheme is now in its second year, having been launched to mark Inverurie Music’s 20th anniversary in 2019. It aims to support young musicians from four local schools – Alford, Inverurie, Kemnay and Meldrum Academies.

Find out more about the scheme here.

There were more applications than last year and sadly, due to limited funding, it was not possible to support everyone who applied. If you would like to support the fund for next year by making a donation, please look at the fundraising page where you can find details of the CD exchange fundraiser. Or you can make a donation via Paypal, by sending a cheque, or making a bank transfer.
