About Jean…
Jean Fletcher comes from a highly musical family. Born in Yorkshire, she studied the violin with Eta Cohen and then at the RCM in London with Hugh Bean and Frederick Grinke. She led the Heller String Quartet in Bermuda. The Hellers were the first quartet to be invited by Sir Yehudi Menuhin to go to Bermuda to set up a string teaching programme and be involved in the musical activities on the island. Jean later became Principal violin with the Ulster Orchestra before taking up a teaching position in her hometown Doncaster. In 2006 Jean moved to Aberdeenshire in Scotland where she taught in schools before retiring, and now teaches privately. She is leader of the Aberdeen Chamber Orchestra and leads the 2nd violins in Aberdeen Sinfonietta. Jean was invited to be Concert Master of the Menuhin Foundation String Orchestra at the Bermuda Festival in February 2016. The Heller Ensemble has been reformed, with Ruth Kalitski (second violin), Sandra Thompson (viola), Gareth John (cello) and Blair Cargill (piano).

Future Plans…
There are two other masterclasses/workshops planned for Saturday 5th March 2022 and Saturday 23rd April 2022. These will be led by the artists visiting Inverurie for the concert series and they will be aimed at a variety of players including strings, woodwind, piano and harp. There is also another String Ensemble day with Jean planned for Saturday 11th June 2022.

More information will follow early in the New Year. Meantime, if you are interested in attending and would like to know more, please get in touch.
