The next Inverurie Music concert will be given by Apollo’s Cabinet – a baroque ensemble, on Thursday 23rd March 2023 at the Acorn Centre, Inverurie.
Apollo’s Cabinet is an award winning early music ensemble founded at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 2018. The ensemble comprises Ella Bodeker (Soprano), Teresa Wrann (Recorder), Jonatan Bougt (Theorbo, Baroque Guitar), Harry Buckoke (Viola da Gamba) and Thomas Pickering (Harpischord, Flute, Recorder).
Tickets cost £13 for non-subscribers and are free for under 25s in full-time education, and to those on disability or low-income benefits. These are available on Eventbrite here, at Butterfly Fabrics, 48 West High Street, Inverurie or at the door.
The concert will focus on storyline-based programmes and ‘A Star is Born’ tells the story of Kitty Clive who was the most famous singer-actress in mid-eighteenth century London and was sought after by the managers of Drury Lane theatre. Composers such as Pepusch, Arne and Handel composed arias specifically for her and she even collaborated with them on rewriting music to make it fit her style and persona, championing English musical theatre.
Clive was an advocate for women’s rights in and outside the playhouse throughout her career. She defined her own image and after her voice started to change with older age, she reimagined herself as one of the first female comedians. Hailed by Göttinger Tagblatt as an “unconventional and convincing” performance where “Baroque meets Bridgerton”, this show is semi-staged and follows this fascinating and inspiring woman throughout her career.

This will be a hugely entertaining evening of music and story-telling, featuring instruments and composers you may not have encountered before.
